Haunted by the lingering effects of an abusive marriage, and unsure how to release the trauma, Carrie wrote down her story as a form of Art Therapy. Never intending to publish, she kept the manuscript a secret. As Carrie became more confident speaking about her past, she was shocked to learn how many other women she personally knew who could relate to elements of her own story. What seemed an isolated incident, actually wasn't; this became a critical factor in her decision to finally publish. "Mending Broken" was released publicly under the pseudonym 'Hallie James' in April, 2023 and is available through the Greater Victoria Public Library.
Synopsis: "Abandoned by her adulterous husband, Navy Anderson suddenly finds herself the sole parent to their three young children. Starting afresh in a new country, she is tasked with rebuilding their fractured lives. Emotionally held hostage by the betrayal and manipulation of her past, Navy realizes that she must choose to release the trauma, by offering compassion for herself. Only by transmuting her darkness into light can she truly be free to walk steadfastly into the new future she creates. On a journey to heal herself, she turns her back on the pain of the past, stepping bravely towards a new life filled with independence, love and gratitude."

After telling her own story in "Mending Broken," Carrie became interested in hearing the stories of others. She began the Fifty First Dates Project as a way to learn from her local community. Meeting with 50 strangers around Victoria, she spends time getting to know each stranger, then records the Teachable Moment or Life Lesson she learns from interacting with each person. The results of the Fifty First Dates Project will be featured in her upcoming book (available at the end of 2024).

Through the Fifty First Dates Project, Carrie met 31/50, Jacinthe. The pair bonded over their shared desire to bring the local community together, providing an outlet for strangers to become friends. Joining forces, they created a monthly 'Meet A Stranger' event which began in July, 2024.
